» Gummy Smile Treatment What is a Gummy Smile? A gummy smile, also known as excessive gingival display, is when an excessive amount of gum is shown above the top teeth when you smile. This is very common in both men and women, however, it can cause individuals to feel self-conscious about their smile. The good news is that a gummy smile can be simply and effectively corrected using Botulinum Toxin Injections. This safe and naturally purified protein works by reducing the activity of the muscle in the upper lip. Causes of a Gummy Smile One of the most common causes of a gummy smile is a hyperactive muscle in the upper lip. A gummy smile can also be caused by a thin upper lip – which exposes more of the upper gum when smiling or a high lip line – which can cause your upper lip to move higher than usual when you smile. At EF MEDISPA all treatments are tailored to the individual and we recommend a one to one consultation with our Treatment Coordinators to discuss your most suitable Smile Design treatment option. Gummy Smile Treatment During our Gummy Smile Treatment, Botulinum Toxin will be carefully injected into both sides of the mouth in the creases that join up to the nose. These injections help to weaken the muscles and reduce the elevation of the upper lip when smiling. A visible improvement can usually be seen around three days after treatment; however, the final result can be visible up to two weeks after the treatment. Clients are still able to retain their regular facial movements, but the top lip will not rise as far above the teeth. For clients who have a gummy smile as a result of a thin upper lip, the practitioner will add some subtle volume with dermal fillers to enhance the lip area, correct any asymmetry and prevent the lip rising too high above the teeth. What are the benefits of the Gummy Smile Treatment? Our gummy smile treatment is quick and minimally invasive, lasting around 30 minutes. There is no downtime to this procedure, meaning that you can continue with your normal daily activities straight after treatment. Why should you have the Gummy Smile treatment at EF MEDISPA?
